LINE: Begins with a dot and ends with a dot. Is straight or curved,
soft or hard, organic, or geometric.


SHAPE: The 2-Dimentional appearance of an object.


TONE & SHADING: How dark or light an image is. Tone is used to
show depth and space.



COLOUR:
Primary Colours (Can’t mix any other colour to make primary colours).


Secondary Colours:
• Blue + yellow = GREEN
• Yellow + red = ORANGE
• Red + blue = PURPLE

TEXTURE: The surface feeling of an object. How rough or smooth
it is.

BALANCE: is the way in which the art elements are arranged. 3
types.
• Symmetrical: Mirror image. The same on either side.
• Asymmetrical: Opposite. Not the same.
• Radial: Distributes the elements from a central point
(Mandala).


TECHNIQUE/MEDIUM: Is the material an artist uses to create an
artwork. Like pencil, paint, oil paint, print.


CONTRAST: Is made by arranging opposing elements next to each
other.


EMPHASIS: When an artist uses contrast to make a part of the
work stand out. This is sometimes called the focal point. (Don’t
draw something in the middle of a page: Slight right or slight left).

The blue dot is bigger, and it is the
opposite colour of orange.
