The correct answer is “Both HR and the line manager”.
Refer to Lesson 10.
As stated by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020, promoting the health
and well-being of employees is a key priority for organisations in the modern
workplace. This is because it directly impacts the physical, mental, emotional, and
social well-being of employees. Both HR and line management share the
responsibility of ensuring the health and well-being of employees. They can
achieve this by establishing a healthy work environment and addressing any unsafe
or unhealthy conditions that may exist. More specifically, line managers play a role
by identifying potential sources of stress in the workplace and taking appropriate
measures to minimize or eliminate them. They can also consider implementing
flexible work schedules, provide support and counselling when necessary, foster a
culture of positive engagement, and ensure that workloads are fair and manageable.
On the other hand, HR is responsible for designing and implementing various
employee wellness programs. These programs can include employee assistance
programs, wellness initiatives, physical fitness programs, smoking-cessation
programs, and substance-abuse treatment programs. HR and the line manager,
therefore, work together to ensure that the health and well-being of employees are
maintained.
