, 1.1. Application of Career Counselling and Guidance Model to Lindiwe's Case
Using an appropriate Career Development Model, which comprises the following
phases, I will work on Lindiwe's case:
Relationship Establishment:
I would establish a rapport with Lindiwe in the very first session, making her feel free
to express her concerns. Empathy is offered towards the feelings of anxiety and
uncertainty; at the same time, the achievements that she has attained in this
learnership, despite prevailin g difficulties, are recognized.
Problem identification and exploration :
I will help Lindiwe spell out her feelings of fear of the unknown, uncertainty in relation
to her career choice, and a tending towards unemployment. I will help her to thi nk
through such feelings, thereby helping her to elucidate the source of the problem.
For example, one can be exploring reasons for feeling as though she wasted time
working on the learnership, what exactly she feels unsure of regarding her career
choice.
Goal Setting:
Together, Lindiwe and I will work out the realistic achievable goals. These may
include short-term goals like improving the job-search skills, updating her résumé,
and job search in different careers that are aligned to her strengths and interests. We
could set long-term goals that would improve her employability through further
education or specialized training.
Intervention and Implementation:
I will take Lindiwe through interventions like career assessments that can enable her
to identify her strengths, interests, and values. I can also offer resources or
references to job placement or education. For instance, we can talk about possible
careers that match her skills and values like any profession in growing or under-
served fields.
Evaluation and Termination:
