1.1. Explain in detail to an Intermediate Phase learner the difference between real and non-real
numbers, give two examples for each. (8)
ANSWER:
Real Numbers:- Real numbers are all the numbers you can find on a number line. They include
whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and even negative numbers. Real numbers can be thought of
as numbers that exist in the "real world."
• Examples of Real Numbers:
1. 5 (a whole number)
2. -3.2 (a negative decimal number)
Non-Real Numbers:- Non-real numbers, also known as imaginary numbers, cannot be found on the
number line. They usually involve the square root of a negative number. We use the letter "i" to
represent the square root of -1. Non-real numbers are used more in advanced mathematics, not in
everyday situations.
