Barloworld Equipment leverage the Resource-Based Theory (RBT) to sustain their
competitive advantage, particularly in southern Africa. The three key elements of
RBT—corporate architecture, innovation, and reputation —are crucial in this regard.
Corporate Architecture: Corporate architecture refers to the structural, cultural, and
managerial aspects that shape an organization. For CAT and Barloworld Equipment,
a well-integrated corporate architecture allows them to efficiently manage and
streamline their operations across different regions, including southern Africa. This

development and resource extraction are critical industries, CAT’s innovative heavy
machinery and Barloworld’s ability to provide localized support have been

Reputation: The reputation of CAT and Barloworld Equipment is built on decades of
