Social Dimensions of Justice
1. Role-players in the trial and post-trial phases
Judge/Magistrate
In both trial and post-trial phases, the judge oversees the proceedings, ensuring
they adhere to the law. They deliver verdicts based on the evidence presented
and impose sentences if the accused is found guilty.
Prosecutor
Represents the state and the victims. Their role is to present evidence proving
the accused’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt. They work closely with
investigators to build a compelling case.
Defense Attorney
Represents the accused, ensuring their rights are protected and that they receive
a fair trial. The defense attorney questions evidence presented and provides
legal arguments to defend the accused.
Police Investigators
Collect and analyze evidence during the pre-trial phase, but their work also
supports the trial process. Their testimony is crucial to linking the accused to the
crime.
