QUESTION 1.
Psychosocial Support and Emotional-Behavioural Interventions (25 marks)
a) Explain the concept of psychosocial support in an educational context. (5
mark
Psychosocial support in an educational context refers to the help provided to
students that addresses both their psychological and social needs. This support is
essential because students face various challenges that can affect their mental
health and well-being, such as academic pressure, family issues, peer
relationships, and trauma. When schools offer psychosocial support, they create
a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive emotionally and
academically.
One important aspect of psychosocial support is that it helps students develop
coping skills. For example, when students learn how to manage stress or resolve
conflicts with their peers, they become more resilient and better equipped to
handle difficulties (World Health Organization, 2017). Additionally, psychosocial
support can include counseling services, support groups, and activities that foster
social connections, which can help reduce feelings of isolation among students
(UNICEF, 2020).
Moreover, teachers play a vital role in providing psychosocial support. By being
attentive to students’ emotional states and creating an inclusive classroom
atmosphere, teachers can help students feel valued and understood. This
approach not only improves students' mental health but also enhances their
academic performance, as emotional well-being is closely linked to learning
outcomes (Roffey, 2013).
, In summary, psychosocial support in education encompasses a range of activities
and interventions designed to promote students' emotional and social well-
being. By addressing these needs, schools can help students succeed both inside
and outside the classroom.

b) Discuss three evidence-based strategies for providing emotional support to
students in a classroom setting. (10 marks)
Providing emotional support to students in a classroom setting is essential for
their overall well-being and academic success. Students who feel supported
emotionally are often more engaged, motivated, and willing to participate in
learning activities. Here, I will discuss three evidence-based strategies that
teachers can use to offer emotional support to their students: creating a safe and
supportive environment, using positive reinforcement, and promoting social-
emotional learning.
First, creating a safe and supportive environment is crucial for emotional well-
being. When students feel safe, they are more likely to express themselves and
participate in classroom activities. Teachers can achieve this by establishing clear
rules and routines, promoting respect among students, and being approachable.
According to the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning
(CASEL, 2020), a supportive environment helps students build trust and can
