NOUNS
• Proper nouns: name of a particular person, place or thing
- Starts with capital letters
• Common nouns: name of a word used for any person, animal, place or thing
• Collective nouns: name given to a collection or group of similar people,
animals or things
• Abstract nouns: name of things that cannot be recognised by the five
senses, but only by the mind
- Usually emotions
- I can put _ in a box
PRONOUNS
• Personal pronouns: used as a substitute for a person’s name
> I, you, he, she, it, me, we, you, they
• Possessive pronouns: shows ownership or possession of a noun
> My/mine, your/yours, his, hers, its, our/ours, your/yours, their/theirs
• Reflexive pronouns: used to emphasise and intensify nouns and pronouns
- Ends with -self
> Myself, herself, himself, itself, ourselves, yourself, themselves
• Interrogative pronouns: used in posing a question
> Who, whose, which, what
• Demonstrative pronouns: points out specific things
> This, that, these, those, such
• Indefinite pronouns: non-specific pronouns; doesn’t need specifications
> One, someone, no-one, everyone, few, all, some
• Relative pronouns: used to connect a clause or phrase to a noun or pronoun
