Your principal is worried that there are too many learners who do not perform well.
Teacher at the school indicate that lower and under-achieving learners exhibit the following
characteristics:
• Some learners work slowly and struggle to complete their tasks on time.
• Some learners show a lack of interest in their schoolwork.
• Some learners do not understand most of the topics they are being taught.
The school principal has consulted you because you are an honours student at a university, and he
seeks your input on how to address these issues. You are asked to prepare a document with practical
solutions for the teachers.
Your task:
Clearly explain each of the three problems (slow working, lack of interest, and difficulty
understanding topics) based on what you observe in the learners and the school context.
Consult your prescribed textbook and other relevant academic resources to explore how educational
psychology can help address these issues. Use theories and concepts (such as motivation, learning
styles, cognitive development, etc.) to provide solutions.
Propose practical strategies for each problem that teachers can implement in the classroom. Ensure the
solutions are realistic and relevant to the specific context of your school (e.g., available resources,
class sizes, teaching environment, community, teacher knowledge).
Introduction
In our school, many learners are facing challenges that hinder their academic performance. Teachers
have identified three core issues: slow working speed, lack of interest in schoolwork, and difficulty
understanding topics. These issues are preventing students from achieving their full potential and
may have long-term effects on their confidence, engagement, and future success.
As an honours student in education, I have been asked to propose a plan that addresses these
challenges, utilizing educational psychology theories and strategies that are realistic and relevant to
our school's context. This document will explore each problem, analyze its roots, and provide
practical classroom solutions for teachers.
