CAMPAIGN CELEBRATIONS

Dr. Tlou provided an overview of the global significance of World Cancer Day 2024,
with the theme “Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and
Partnerships.” He highlighted that cancer remains a critical issue affecting people
between the ages of 25 and 49, a demographic that makes up a significant portion of
the workforce. Dr. Tlou stressed the importance of the college’s efforts in educating
and supporting this age group to address the long-term impact of cancer on individuals
and communities.
Following this, several ideas and proposals for the event were discussed. Dr. Mago
suggested inviting a guest speaker from the Department of Health, who could provide
insight into how businesses and individuals can contribute to reducing cancer rates.
This was considered a valuable addition to the event, as it would offer both educational
content and a call to action for the community.
Mr. Sello, representing the Student Representative Council (SRC), gave an update on
their preparations. The SRC had already started designing posters and flyers to
promote the event across all campuses. Students and staff would be required to wear
T-shirts representing the college colors, and entry tickets priced at R20 would be sold
as part of the fundraising effort. Additionally, pink ribbons would be distributed to
symbolize cancer awareness, and transportation logistics were being arranged to
ensure all campuses could attend the event.
Dr. Tau added that the college management had reserved funds to support the
campaign. These funds would cover the guest speaker’s fees, provide stalls for
