Question 1 - Minutes of a Meeting
BACKGROUND
Dr Nku is the Manager of the Wellness Clinic at Conwell College. The college services five
campuses. He has been tasked with the organisation of the main event of the year, the Cancer
Awareness Campaign celebrations, which would bring all the workers and students together at
a central venue. A planning committee, consisting of Wellness Clinic staff, members of the
Student Representative Council (SRC) and Conwell College Management sat together in a
meeting to discuss about preparations for the event to be held on 10 November 2024.

Dr Nku (Chair): Ladies and gentlemen, Cancer is a major threat to the world of work and has had a
huge impact on the most productive segment of the labour force. We have so far addressed most of the
crucial issues that are affecting the wellness of our college community, including recent complaints
about drug abuse that is recently negatively affecting the employees. This has made us realise that the
college should strengthen the department of counselling so that such affected employees receive
adequate support. We are now progressing into this crucial agenda item 4.1 Cancer Awareness
Campaign Celebrations. This is one of the most crucial events that the college holds every year. The
intention is to ensure that most of the people get as much information about Cancer infection,

suggestions of how we can organise the 2024 event, let me allow Dr Tlou, our researcher, to brief us
about what it means to commemorate World Cancer Day.
Dr Tlou: Thank you Chair for allowing me to share crucial information about these commemorations.

(WHO), the majority of infected people are between 25 and 49 years old. Half the nation's workforce
falls into this age group. Businesses around the globe are steadily counting up the cost of Cancer
infections and the statistics are staggering. According to the WHO, the disease is the world’s leading
infectious killer, claiming to date more than 25 million lives. Given this information, colleagues, it is
important that we strengthen our awareness campaigns, and make a difference. Over to you Chair!
Dr Nku: Thank you Dr Tlou, for putting the matter into proper perspective. Ladies and gentlemen, let
us now look at how we can make 2024 Cancer Awareness Campaign celebrations remarkable and
successful. Let us think about activities that are exciting and informative. The floor is open for your
inputs.
Dr Mago: Thank you so much Dr Tlou, for sharing such important information with us. We must
praise the efforts of the government on the progress made nationally regardless of many challenges
and resource constraints. Some of the successes include a reduction in Cancer infections, particularly
among the economically active age group (15–49), and an increase in voluntary testing. These days
people get to know their status sooner, seek treatment sooner, hence the increase in the number of
