Read the scenario about Jeffrey’s Cooking and answer the following questions.
Jeffrey’s Cooking has recently expanded considerably and now supplies four
suburbs. This business provides customers who don’t have the time to cook or
would like to take a night off with home-cooked meals. Jeffrey employs four chefs
each with his or her own team. They each buy their ingredients in a different suburb.
Recently, Jeffrey realised that this system is ineffective. Because the chefs have
their own preferences when it comes to ingredients, meals are often either too
expensive or substandard. Inconsistency in the delivery of ingredients is another
problem. Similar orders from various kitchens are placed every second week.
Because of unpredictable delivery times, some kitchens sometimes have too little
stock and sales have dropped. This is of great concern to Jeffrey as it affects his
business’s profits.
Question 1 [8]
Discuss the four Vs with reference to the case study above {4}. Provide a reason for
your choice {4}. Hint: Only stating high and low will not attract any marks.
Question 2 [6]
Name three stakeholders in Jeffrey’s cooking business. As a production and
operations manager, briefly explain to Jeffrey how the company can contribute
towards each of the stakeholders you have mentioned through corporate social
responsibility (CSR).
Question 3 [16]
3.1 Identify the four process design objectives {4} that Jeffrey may use to design
his business model and provide an explanation for each of your answers {4}.
(8)
3.2 Identify the process type that applies to Jeffrey’s Cooking and justify your
choice. (2)
3.3 Every product or service has three aspects: a concept, a package and a
process. Apply each of these aspects to the case study. (6)
