1.1 Distributive Justice
Example of Perceived Distributive Injustice:
Employees perceive it as unfair that their overtime, which significantly supplements their
income, has been cut, especially given the reliance of many employees on overtime to
meet their financial needs.
Criterion Applied (Need):
This situation is seen as unjust under the "need" criterion of distributive justice.
Employees depend on overtime pay to afford basic living expenses, and cutting it
disproportionately affects those who are financially vulnerable, like Sipho. The decision
to reduce overtime does not account for the needs of employees who depend on the
additional income, causing frustration as management seems indifferent to this impact.
1.2 Procedural Justice
Example of Perceived Unfair Process:
Employees view the decision-making process as unfair because Mr Mkhize did not
allow them to participate in the decision-making or suggest alternatives to the overtime
cut.
