ENG1517 Student no. 68289235 Assignment 2
Question 1:
The visual for the story about how the dog came to be domesticated animal appeals to the Foundation Phase
children is because quite a number of Foundation Phase learners have pets and majority of those pets are
dogs. For the learners to learn about how dogs became pets they will be interested in the story. The pictures
that come with the story appeal to the learners because they relate to each paragraph of the story. Children
find reading interesting because it makes it easier for them to acquire and comprehend the material or tale
when they see pictures in a book. It needs to be visible to them or at least clear in their minds. Readers are
assisted in understanding what they are reading by visual aids that bring the text to life and aid in
comprehension. Visual components like photographs, drawings, comics or cartoons, diagrams, color, patterns,
lines, shape, texture, and other such aspects help to influence students' cognition and excite their imagination.
Children can develop their perspective-taking abilities and find their own identities with the aid of visuals. The
setting of the story, details about the characters, the plot, and creatively expressed points of view are all made
clearer by the use of images. Together, the text and the image are effective.
Question 2:
The story line that can be used for this comic below:
In the first picture of the comic the girl would be introducing herself to the little boy and asking what he has to
eat for snack time. In the second picture of the comic the boy is telling her that his parents packed him a tasty
cupcake for him to eat for snack. The third picture in the comic the girl will be saying how unhealthy the
cupcake is for snack and that she has an apple for snacktime and that he should speak to his parents about
packing him a more healthy snack. In the last picture of the comic the cupcake is speaking saying that healthy
snacks are important for children but it was the boys birthday over the weekend and gave him the last
cupcake from his party for his snack.
Question 3:
Using illustrations in books is an efficient technique to effectively communicate a message to young children.
By reading and looking at the illustrations, they will be able to recall the story's plot and details with ease. A
story becomes intriguing and involves the kids when it has both text and pictures. Visuals aid in the expression
of emotions as well as the teaching of moral lessons or crucial facts to young people. Words and images are
partners who work together. They each take turns becoming the protagonists of an engaging novel story.
Scott McCloud adds that images can supplement, amplify, or counteract written language. Visuals that
accompany a text can be helpful because they enable kids to create associations between words and the
things or concepts they stand for.
