QUESTION 1
Coetzee and Schreuder (2021) assert that individuals experience setbacks and obstacles in their career
path. These obstacles are referred to as career hurdles. Based on your understanding of career hurdles,
answer the following questions:
1.1 Name and describe, in your own words, the six career hurdles as conceptualised by Ng and
Feldman (2014). (12)
1.2 Reflect on your personal career. Identify TWO career hurdles that may explain your current
career concerns. Provide examples from your career story to substantiate your answer. (8)

Plan your career by considering the three steps of the Career Invention Model by Coetzee (2007). In
your answer describe each step and apply it to your own career planning. Motivate your answer with
examples from your career life story. (15)

3.1 Define the concept of a career anchor and discuss the career motives and values of the pure
challenge, lifestyle and entrepreneurial anchors. (15)
3.2 Reflect on your career life story and identify THREE career anchors you believe have influenced
your career related choices. (10)

Interventions to promote flourishing can either be from an organisational or individual perspective.
Organisational interventions include changing the situation or having empowering leadership within the
organisation.
Discuss how training; interaction with co-workers and career conversations may influence your
flourishing and wellbeing in an organisation. Provide examples to support your answer. (15)
