T: On the board I have two sentences, and what I need you to do is try and link up the sentences.
S: How would we do that?
T: I want to see if anyone has ever done this before, so how do you think this sentence would be
linked up? Please write your answer down on your lined paper and then we will go through your
answers together.
T: Alright everyone, time is up. Let’s have a look at your answers! Who would like to have a try
at this?
S: I think I have read this somewhere teacher. I made my sentence “IF you have a party am I
invited?”
T: That’s great Diego! Well done! I’ve written the sentence on the board; do you think there is
any punctuation missing?
S: A comma?
T: That’s great Jade! Yes a comma is missing. We will use a comma to link these two sentences
today. If we look at this sentence, we can see there is an IF and a Result. Who can guess which
is which?
S: Is the “Am I invited?” a IF clause?
T: Not quite but good effort Mila! The if clause will be the “If you have a party”. So if you have
a party, you want to know if you are invited. Do you think you will be invited if there is no
party?
S: No
T: Great work class! Now, look at the 3 examples I have given you here, and try and complete
the sentences for me on your paper and we will go through them together in 1 minute.
