Final Project

, Running head: Final project 2

Background/situation of the selected topic

Employees require motivation in order to perform optimally and feel appreciated.

Employees have different motivators. Some perceive rewards to be motivating while others see

money as their motivator. Employee productivity is affected by motivation levels in the

organization. Motivated employees conduct their tasks effectively which results to an increase in

productivity. Managers and leaders need to accept the impact of motivation at the workplace.

Unmotivated workers are not interested in their jobs, are less productive and hate the

organization. On the contrary, motivated employees are highly productive, creative and

innovative (Tietjen & Myers, 1998).

Various scholars and researchers have conducted studies on motivation. Organizations

need to understand the different motivators for each employee and devise different approaches to

motivate them. This study will highlight the essence of motivation at the workplace in order to

increase the productivity and performance levels of employees. Some workers are motivated by a

sense of achievement and accomplishment for meeting professional and personal objectives.

Most people are self-motivated and self-disciplined. Rewards and incentives have less impact on

workers who are motivated by a feeling of personal confidence (Whiteley, 2002). Employers can

use various approaches to motivate their workers and increase productivity in the organization.

For instance, in order to motivate employees that are motivated by money, the employer can

come up with cash rewards for workers who achieve daily production targets. To ensure high

productivity in the long-run, the employer would need to devise a reward system that encourages

competition in the organization. Top performers need to be recognized publicly.
