Public Services Level 3 Year 2
Unit 13 – Command and Control in the Uniformed Public Services
P3 – Explain the skills and personal qualities required for command and control.
Introduction
In this task, I am going to explain the skills and personal qualities that were shown by an individual in the
armed forces. I am going to explain the skills and personal qualities of a Royal Marines Commando.
The Royal Marines are the amphibious troops of the
Royal Navy; they are an elite fighting force who are
trained to respond quickly to any threats against the
United Kingdom and its partnering countries. The Royal
Marines are known as the best light infantry troops in
the world, proving their quality over other forces such
as the British Army, United States Army and the French
Army. Royal Marines Commandos have physical and
mental strength, which allows them to perform to the
best of their ability anywhere in the world.
Scenario
A Royal Marines Commando has found them self separated from the rest of their unit in the midst of a
fire fight with enemy forces in a forest in Afghanistan. They must now find a route back to their unit
through a thick forest with enemy patrols. Royal Marines Commandos are taught many skills to be able
to survive in the wild making the most of their equipment and ability. This Royal Marines Commando
will have to tackle many obstacles such as rock faces, long grass, swamps, uneven terrain and rivers.
