, CAT PAT Phase One
Description of task:
I have decided to help organize businesses to figure out if running the business is
worthwhile and profitable or if their business should be closed down or downsized.
There are many factors to consider when determining whether a business is successful
or not, some of them being the profitability, keeping up with modern technology and to
be dynamic and change alongside society's needs. To accomplish this, I will have to
acquire various information from the business to conclude whether they are making a
profit or a loss. I will have to organize things such as, salaries, client lists, invoices, their
sales, suppliers, their petrol, their vehicles, any repairs, and rent. I will also have to
collect information on what factors affect profitability and how that profitability is
measured. Another component of this project is to help the business to see if they can
eliminate or lower any costs, such as comparing petrol prices from different companies
and checking if we can rent another building for our admin and accounting staff at a
lower cost. In this phase my main aim it to find the definition of success within business
and what it means to make a profit. Finding insightful answers to my questions in this
phase will be greatly benefit me in the upcoming phases to help business and answer
my main question: To what extent is a business successful and profitable?
How and which packages will be used?
• Microsoft word - I will make an information booklet to help companies understand
whether they are running a successful company and why or if they should close
down or downsize their company.
• Microsoft Excel- excel will be used to work out if the business is making a profit
or loss. To achieve this, I will make formulas that will work out the break-even
points, what the markup is and the salaries of each employee. I will also make
stock sheets to help businesses keep track of how much stock should be left
after the sales of the day, in doing so they can count the stock and then see if
stock is stolen.
• Microsoft Access - access will be used to create tables for all the business's
expenses, including how much they cost and where the business buys them
from. A client database will have all client’s names, surnames, contact details
and their birthdays. A salary database will be made with the names of the
employees, their salary for the month and their job description. Another database
will be used to show the name of the products that have been sold, the selling
price and the cost price of the product, along with the quantity of the product that
has been sold during the month
• HTML- this will be a website geared towards helping the business understand
where they can potentially improve their business and in what state their
business is in.
