1. Describe the type of entrepreneur that Meshack is according to the case study
and support your answer with an example from the case study. (3)
Based on the case study, Meshack Mulaudzi can be described as a
social entrepreneur. A social entrepreneur is someone who starts a
business with the primary goal of creating positive social impact or
addressing a specific social or environmental problem.
An example of Meshack being a social entrepreneur is evident in his
business, Kaelo Black Beauty. He identified a lack of toys and related
products that African children can relate to, specifically mentioning the
absence of suitable black African dolls for his daughter. Instead of
simply accepting the status quo, he took action to solve this problem by
designing and manufacturing African-themed toys that promote self-
love, identity, and cultural representation. By creating these toys,
Meshack aims to empower African children and instill positive values in
them. This shows his commitment to addressing a social issue and
using entrepreneurship as a means to bring about positive change.
Furthermore, Meshack's focus on launching an animation series on the
Mahle and Captain Africa brand, as well as developing an e-learning
platform on haircare, demonstrates his intention to go beyond traditional
business activities and utilize innovative methods to educate and
empower his target audience. These initiatives reflect his social
entrepreneurial mindset of creating both economic value and positive

1. Scaling up through strategic partnerships and collaborations:
Meshack Mulaudzi emphasizes the importance of collaborating with other
entrepreneurs where there is synergy. By forming strategic partnerships,
entrepreneurs can leverage each other's strengths, resources, and
networks to achieve mutual growth. In the case study, Meshack mentions
securing funding to scale up his business and supply national retailers. This
indicates his intention to form partnerships with larger retailers to expand
the reach of his products.
2. Leveraging social media for market access and promotion:
Meshack highlights the significance of using social media aggressively as
an easy and effective way to access the market and promote products and
