Elegie:
Klaaglied (waarin daar weemoedig oor die verganklikheid van die skoonheid en die
verbygaan van dinge gepeins word),
Lykdig (treur oor die dood van `n dierbare),
treursang (lied oor die dood van `n beminde.)
Elegie vir ‘n vriend is geskryf na die dood van ‘n vriend. Die dood word hierin betreur.
Die persoon was duidelik oud en het sorg nodig gehad.
