Notes

Modern consciousness and order of knowledge
 Discipline of political science is one of many other modern disciplinary
knowledge including philosophy.
 Order of knowledge- is what makes it possible for political science to
make sense across all boards.
 Modern consciousness is universal. There is a transformation in the way
we give to the world, respective to the degree you have studied, due to
modern consciousness, you take things as they are given. Whatever you
do, you must have a reason.
 In other parts of the world (Europe), modern consciousness comes
naturally but in Africa, it comes in the form of colonialism.
 Being a modern person is not just having the internet, but it is totality. It
is that your understanding of space becomes the same as the person in
Kairo or America.
 Once the meaning of totality emerges everything acquires a new
meaning.
 Problem with modern knowledge is that it displays itself as a continuous
narrative – this narrative is a retrospective creation of western
scholars( modernity)
 Everything about us(humans) as the same. It is in the consciousness of
people that we respond in similar ways.

Modern meaning totality
 The meaning of totality is all-encompassing. It gives meaning to
everything in the world. How we feel etc.
 Concept of time has not always existed. The time of the clock is a recent
creation. It’s (time) a modern creation.
